MTV launches mobile music app in Malaysia_20_12_2015

Viacom’s MTV Trax service has been introduced in Malaysia in conjunction with MusicQubed and mobile operator Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd.

MTV Trax offers a playlist of 100 popular music tracks, which are refreshed on users’ smartphones each day. Subscribers receive unlimited plays of the music and the ability to access tracks offline.

“MTV is one of the hottest entertainment brands in the minds of 16 to 24-year-old mobile users, with the majority of online engagement with the MTV brand now coming through mobile devices,” said Paras Sharma, vice president of MTV & digital media, Viacom International Media Networks Asia.

“MTV Trax is a new concept in premium digital music services – a ‘play-as-you-go’ offering for casual music fans who want music on their mobile easily and flexibly. It’s easy for the end user, because MTV’s experts curate all the music coupled with MusicQubed’s easy-to-use technology, and it’s easy for mobile network operators like Digi, allowing them to offer a premium branded entertainment product to their customers with flexible and affordable pricing.”

The MTV Trax service is currently available as a two-week free trial, after which the full service will cost US$2.99 (iOS) or US$1.70 (Android/Windows) per month. A ‘lite’ mode allows users to access 60 tracks per month on shuffle play for free.

Praveen Rajan, head of post-paid and digital services, Digi, said: “The collaboration with MTV Trax reflects the focus of Digi to give our customers an offering that is fun, innovative and genuinely adds value to our customers’ digital lifestyles.”

MTV Trax is already available in the UK and Ireland.
