Vodafone rolls out Ultra HD box in Germany_20.12.2015

Vodafone Deutschland has commenced offering its ADSL internet customers a new set-top-box to access its IPTV and video-on-demand (VOD) service.

The TV Center (pictured) is suitable for Ultra HD (4K), HD and SD programmes. With the time-shift function, viewers can pause the currently running TV channel and continue watching it at a later stage. The inbuilt hard disk has 500 GB storage capacity.

The web portal offers more than 20 internet apps, for example Deezer, ARTE and Putpat. The free-of-charge Vodafone TV Manager app for tablets (iOS/Android) provides an overview of the TV and VOD programmes and enables usage of the tablet as a remote control.

Through the DLNA standard, images, photos and videos can be wirelessly transmitted from the smartphone or tablet to the TV screen.

The box which Vodafone announced in September 2014 was jointly developed with hardware manufacturer Sagem; the operating system is provided by Cisco.

ADSL customers signing up for IPTV platform Vodafone TV for €10 per month receive the box free of charge as part of their subscription contract.
