Uruguay's public telco Antel is to offer Netflix to its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and 4G clients, through a distribution agreement signed with the over-the-top (OTT) operator.
Thanks to the new agreement which was announced during Antel's 40-year anniversary celebrations, Netflix will be available for Vera TV subscribers from 15 August.
"Due to the explosive growth in traffic, Antel is building the Pando data centre, launching new national distribution platforms and renewing its deals with international distribution platforms," said the company.
During 2014, Antel has been carrying out a strong investment plan to improve the country's fibre infrastructure, with over 700,000 Uruguayan homes now having access to the Internet and pay-TV through its FTTH network.
The public company has also extended 4G LTE coverage throughout the country's most populated areas. Antel plans to connect over half a million more before the year end, while network deployment continues and new services are added to its fibre and 4G packages.
