US comms giant AT&T is gearing up to roll out a new content store for subscribers with Android and iOS devices later this summer.

Users will be able to browse websites and stream audio and video without impacting their personal data plans. Syntonic's cloud-based Connected Services Platform is enabling the launch.

"AT&T can offer sponsored application connectivity as a differentiated offering to attract new customers, increase existing customer loyalty and build complementary data revenue streams," the company explained.

Content and application publishers meanwhile can expand their reach and promote their brands through a choice of customisable service options that enable promotional opportunities and the ability to target specific audiences. And content providers' new opportunities to generate greater use of their mobile applications, leading to increased revenue through content purchases, third-party advertising and premium upgrades.

Sponsored data is available to post-paid and session-based customers who have an active AT&T data plan and a 4G-capable device.
