Samsung pulls plug on plasma TVs

Once heralded as the technological future for display technology, plasma display technology has received a huge blow with the news that Samsung is to halt production of such screens on 30 November.

Despite their inherent advantages terms of colour quality plasma screens have always been expensive to produce and, crucially in current times, are bulky and expensive to run in terms of their usage of power.

Samsung's action follows similar moves by rivals Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi and Pioneer. The company says that it will instead focus on curved and UltraHD TVs.
