Snapchat teams with media giants for Discover

Beloved by teens everywhere, Snapchat has now reached out to big media with its new Discover service.

The company pointedly stated that Discover is not a regular social media play: instead it says that it will be the result of collaboration with 'world-class' leaders in media to build a storytelling format that puts the narrative first.

The result is a new service that is refreshed every 24 hours, as that is what it believes news is all about. Launch content partners include National Geographic, Vice Media, Yahoo, Food Network, ESPN, Time Warner and CNN.

"Discover is different because it has been built for creatives," Snapchat said in a company statement. " All too often, artists are forced to accommodate new technologies in order to distribute their work. This time we built the technology to serve the art: each edition includes full screen photos and videos, awesome long-form layouts, and gorgeous advertising ... Social media companies tell us what to read based on what's most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what's important."
